VeriSky keeps score of its own forecasts

A weather app for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Android that shows which forecast to trust where you live. It saves what every forecast predicted, compares it with what actually happened, and scores each one for your location.

About VeriSky

Weather forecasts often disagree, and most apps never tell you which one has actually been right. VeriSky does. It puts forecasts from national weather services (ECMWF, NOAA, DWD, Met Office, Meteo-France, KNMI and others) and commercial providers such as Apple Weather side by side, keeps a record of what each one predicted, and scores them against what really happened at your location, separately for temperature, rain, wind and sun.

For people who just want the forecast, the Today tab shows the Blend: VeriSky's own forecast, which weights the models by how well they have done where you are. For people who want to dig in, the Verify and Score tabs show every model's track record, down to how far ahead each one can be trusted.

VeriSky is built by Nick Leenders, a solo developer in the Netherlands. It started as a way to stop checking five weather apps before going sailing, and still being unsure which one to believe.

What the scores show

VeriSky's server checks forecasts against real weather stations at 154 airports worldwide. Over the 90 days to 27 October 2026:

  • No forecast wins everywhere. Ten different forecasts were the most accurate for temperature at one airport or another. The right choice depends on where you live.
  • Apple Weather typically ranked 6th of about 17 forecasts on temperature, and it did no better in the United States than in Europe or Asia.
  • VeriSky's Blend was more accurate than Apple Weather on temperature at 136 of 153 airports, and on wind at 121.

Method: hourly forecasts up to seven days ahead, scored by root-mean-square error against airport (METAR) observations. Happy to share the full data.
